Fundamentals at Work |
The fundamentals of managing to performance and delivering real value during change |
Willem J. Prinselaar MBA, who is presently chairman of EVC, managing partner of Privast Capital Partners, and in his previous life the founder of DBM Belgium, advisor of Chase Investment Bank and who had various senior positions in ICI, writes about the book: It is rare to find a book on management that provides such a clear picture of what is actually happening in organisations at all operational levels. The emphasis is on people behaviour which permeates right through any organisation. The book is critical in that the author puts anyone who has been or is involved in management in front of the mirror and few will be those who do not recognise some of their own behaviours. The title relates to the fundamental point that people make up organisations and their individual and combined actions will ultimately determine success or failure. Changing behaviour is always uncomfortable and requires leadership, compassion and the creation of new relationships. The willingness to change is often there where one is not expecting it whilst the resistance is often located where leadership should be present. The author provides many telling examples of real life situations and the reader will have ample opportunity to test his own ability to drive through the changes necessary for growth and survival. However the real tool kit comes from the possibility to test the readers' willingness to be honest with him- or herself, to question their quality of leadership and their courage to face reality. An easy read with profound questions about behaviour and consequently a reference book for any person in any position of leadership to regularly test his or her effectiveness. |
